Refund Policy

This Refund Policy explains how refunds work for the ChessNotes Pro subscription. It complements our Terms of Service and is designed to comply with Italian D.Lgs. 206/2005 (Consumer Code) and EU Directive 2011/83/EU.

Last updated: 2026-04-24

1. Free trial — no payment is taken

  • Every new Pro subscription starts with a 7-day free trial. During this trial no money is charged.
  • You can cancel at any moment during the trial from the customer portal (linked inside the ChessNotes app menu). If you cancel before the trial ends, you will not be charged a single cent.
  • If you do not cancel, at the end of the 7th day your card is charged the regular Pro price (€6.99 including VAT if applicable).

2. EU right of withdrawal (14 days)

  • Under Italian D.Lgs. 206/2005 implementing EU Directive 2011/83/EU, consumers resident in the EU are entitled to withdraw from a distance contract for the supply of digital services within 14 days from the conclusion of the contract, without providing reasons.
  • Important exception. By using the Pro features (creating additional repertoires, running Smart Drill sessions, generating blunder reviews, importing Lichess studies, etc.) during the 14-day window, you expressly consent to the immediate performance of the service and acknowledge that you will lose the right of withdrawal once the service has been fully performed, as permitted by Art. 59(1)(o) of D.Lgs. 206/2005.
  • This means: the 7-day trial already covers your risk-free evaluation window. If you actively use the Service after the trial, you accept the monthly charge for that period.

3. Cancellation

You can cancel your Pro subscription at any time, from either:

The ChessNotes app: Account menu → Manage subscription, which opens the Lemon Squeezy customer portal.

The cancellation email from Lemon Squeezy which contains a one-click link.

Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You keep Pro features until that date, then you automatically revert to the Free plan. Your repertoires remain in your account and accessible (subject to the 1-repertoire free-plan limit — you will still see them but may need to upgrade again to create new ones beyond the limit).

No money is refunded for the time already elapsed in the current billing period, unless one of the exceptional cases below applies.

4. When we still issue a refund

Even outside the legal withdrawal window, we evaluate refund requests case-by-case and grant them in the following situations:

Double payment / technical error: if you are charged twice or incorrectly, we refund the duplicate payment in full.

Service unavailability: if the Service is unavailable for more than 72 consecutive hours due to our fault, we refund pro-rata for the period.

Accidental renewal: if you forgot to cancel and have not used the Service since the renewal, write to us within 7 days of the charge and we will usually issue a full refund as a gesture of goodwill.

Fraudulent use of your card: contact your bank for a chargeback and email us in parallel; we will cooperate.
